UNH PHYSICS DEPARTMENT - JOBS

Faculty Position in Experimental Nuclear Physics

The Department of Physics at the University of New Hampshire seeks an outstanding individual with interests and expertise in experimental nuclear physics who shows promise of becoming a leader in the field. The UNH nuclear physics group has made significant contributions to research in electron-nuclear scattering at TJNAF and in polarized neutron interactions at LANSCE. The group continues to be active at TJNAF and is initiating new projects at HIgS and the SNS. We expect that the candidate will expand and strengthen a broad program of experimental studies in nuclear physics. In addition, the successful candidate will support the physics department through excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Applicants from all subfields of experimental nuclear physics are encouraged to apply. Although we are expecting to fill this position at the junior tenure-track faculty level, a more senior appointment is possible.

Please email inquiries and applications, including CV, list of publications, and statements of research and teaching interests to

John Calarco,

For full consideration, applications should be received by February 1, 2008. The University of New Hampshire is a doctoral/extensive research institution located in Durham on a 200-acre campus, 60 miles north of Boston. The University of New Hampshire is an equal opportunity employer. UNH is strongly committed to achieving excellence through diversity. The University actively encourages applications and nominations of women, persons of color, persons with disabilities, and members of other underrepresented groups.

Faculty Position in Physics and Integrated Applied Mathematics

The Department of Physics at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Exceptional candidates at a higher rank may also be considered. The position is partially supported by the newly established Center for Integrated Computation and Analysis of Reconnection and Turbulence (CICART) (a collaboration with Dartmouth College) under the auspices of the DoE EPSCoR program, and will be affiliated with the Integrated Applied Mathematics (IAM) Program, which is expected to be inaugurated in the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) in Fall, 2008.   We seek faculty who are qualified to teach in the Department of Physics as well as the IAM Program, and can contribute substantially to the multidisciplinary research program of CICART, which includes applied mathematics, astrophysics, computational physics, fluid dynamics, fusion, and space plasma physics. All candidates with potential connections to the CICART research mission will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates with strong background and experience in computational physics and high-performance computing. Successful candidates will be expected to develop externally funded research programs and strengthen interdisciplinary research activities in the IAM program and CICART. Information regarding research and educational interests and programs in the Department of Physics may be found at Physics Department and CICART websites.

UNH is a Land Grant, Sea Grant and Space Grant institution with approximately 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It is located near the New Hampshire seacoast and is within sixty miles of Boston, MA, Portland, ME and the lakes and mountains of New Hampshire. There are numerous departments and research institutes that provide excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research (see College of Engineering and Physical Science and Institute for Earth Oceans, and Space).

Application review will begin on December 1, 2007 and continue until the position is filled. Electronic applications are strongly preferred, but paper applications are also acceptable. Applicants should send a CV, a statement of research accomplishments and plans, a statement on teaching, and also arrange for three electronic letters of recommendation to be sent directly to:
