Minor In Physics
This program includes 5 courses in physics, and allows students to become more deeply involved in physics without the commitment of a major. Consult the catalog for details on getting a minor.
For Physics, the minor requirement consists of
- Physics 407, 408, 505 (General Physics I, II, and III)
- and two of the following
- Physics 406 (Astronomy),
- Physics 508 (Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics),
- Physics 605 (Electronics Lab).
Note that these courses have the following mathematical prerequisites
- Math 425, 426 (Calculus) for Physics 407, 408, 505
- Algebra for Physics 406 (Astronomy),
- Math 528 (Multi-dimensional Calculus) for Physics 508
- Math 527 (Differential Equations) for Physics 605
Students who wish to take other courses for their minor instead of those listed here, may petition to do so. Our choices above were made on the basis of prerequisites: all of our other courses have more mathematics and physics prerequisites than those courses listed above. However, any student with the required background is welcome to take the other courses.
