UNH Physics Teacher's Alliance

Goals:

UNH/PTA is an organization to support the work of physics teachers in NH, Maine and Massachusetts.  This is an rejuvination and expansion of "Seacoast Physics Teachers" group.

 

How to join:

If you would like to be put on the mailing list, please send email to Prof. Dawn Meredith (Dawn.meredith@unh.edu) with UNH/PTA in the subject line, and let me know your email and your school affiliation (if you have one).  Anyone involved in any way with physics or science teaching is most welcome to join!

 

Future Meetings:

As of 1/17/2012, the plans for meetings in the upcoming year are as follows:

Two virtual talks (probably using GoToMeeting) on "Faster than Light Neutrinos" and "Finding the Higgs Particle"; date and time TBD; send your email address to dawn.meredith@unh.edu if you'd like to be notified.

Spring 2012 NHSTA conference on March 12 in Keene

July 13, 2012 at UNH with talks by faculty, tours of experimental facilities, and discussions of pedagogy (problem solving or active learning)

Our first event was July 7, 2011 in DeMeritt Hall, UNH Campus

9- 10:30 Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Cosmology and Strings - Prof. Per Berglund, Skyping in from Europe, with graduate student Jishnu Bhattacharyya in person

10:45-12 Discussion of articulation between HS and college; how to prepare your students; what they can expect; how to write a good letter of recommendation

12- 1 PM:  Lunch

1-2:30 Nuclear power in light of recent events in Japan  - Prof. Jim Connell

2:45 – 4:  tours of research labs (medical imagaing, gamma ray astrophysics, Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission)
